Homework will begin the week of 9/28.
Students have had time to learn the homework expectations during our first few weeks together. Homework will focus on Math and ELA with an occasional Science or Social Studies assignment. All homework will be a review of what we have learned in class and students should be able to complete their homework independently.
A homework packet will be sent home with your child every Monday. There will be three pieces to this packet that should be returned by Friday each week.
1. Math Problem Solving: A review of the concepts we are studying in class.
2. ELA: A review of grammar and conventions we are working on in class.
3. Math Fluency Log: Addition and Subtraction Fluency is a very important part of second grade. By the end of the year, students should be able to fluently (in 3 seconds) add and subtract within 20. Students can work on their fluency nightly in a variety of ways: flashcards, ipad apps, computer games, even asking a sibling to quiz them. This review shouldn't take more than 5-10 minutes a night, but is an extremely valuable exercise.
*This log is in addition to the problem solving homework.
